Rental Inspection Information:
Property Maintenance Code
The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcing the property maintenance standards established by the Village of Homewood. Property maintenance impacts the property values of neighborhoods and the Village as a whole. The Division executes a proactive program to identify properties that do not meet standards. Click here to view a summary of Homewood's Property Maintenance Code. Residents who receive notification of violations are given time to correct the violations. Repeat violations or refusal to correct the violations may result in fines and/or court appearances. Violations may also be resolved through Homewood's Administrative Adjudication Program, which offers administrative civil hearings at Village Hall rather than Cook County Circuit Court (Markham, IL).
Contact the Building Department at (708) 206-3385 regarding any questions pertaining property maintenance and code enforcement.
The Building Department issues building permits, inspects new construction and administers the village sign ordinance. Residential building permits are typically processed in two to four weeks. Commercial and Industrial building permits may take longer, depending on the scope of the review. Copies of the building codes are available for review at the Village Hall.
Most construction projects require a building permit before work can begin. To schedule an inspection, contact the Building Department at (708) 206-3385 at least 24 hours in advance of when the inspection is needed.
Homewood Police Department
The Homewood Police Department is responsible for the enforcement of all state laws and most municipal laws (ordinances) in the Village. Services provided by the Department include routine preventive patrol, crime and accident investigations, animal control, traffic and parking enforcement and community policing functions (including crime prevention, neighborhood watch and special outreach programs such as D.A.R.E. and the Police Chief's Citizen Advisory Committee).
